In a world of distractions,
we're built to read.
BetweenReads is an ad-free home for readers, writers, poets, and illustrators, where the best work rises through tailored reading, honest recommendations, and community trust.
Imagine browsing an independent bookstore. It’s eclectic, unexpected, and rewards the wandering reader. You might arrive looking for one book and leave having discovered three others you never knew you needed.
That’s the experience we’re building: curating outstanding books, stories, poetry, and illustrations alongside recommendations and reviews from other readers.
Discovery is broken.
Readers today are overwhelmed by algorithms, endless recommendations, and feeds built to keep them scrolling. Paying for multiple subscriptions just to read broadly only adds to the burden. What if one membership opened the door to a diverse range of voices at one reasonable price?
Fiction was never meant to be read in an inbox, arriving between a receipt and a sale announcement. Reading deserves immersion in a writer’s world, not interruption.
Creators shouldn’t have to master digital marketing, self-promote across platforms, post on social media, seek collabs on one site, and sell on another, just to find readers. We believe platforms should carry more of the work, so creators can spend more time creating.
Readers matter.
We find that most platforms are built almost entirely around creators. Readers are treated as an audience to be counted, not participants with a stake in what gets found. But readers recommend books, share reviews, contribute feedback, highlight memorable passages, and help surface exceptional work. Their contributions shape discovery across the platform and create richer experiences for everyone.
We reject feeds built for doomscrolling.
We believe discovery should be meaningful.
We built BetweenReads instead.
One home for it all.
BetweenReads brings reading and publishing together in one place. Great writing is discovered on demand, curated to your taste, and experienced like a magazine built just for you. Read what fits the moment: microstories to novels, by time, chapter, mood, or genre.
For writers, poets, and illustrators, it’s also a place to build readership, receive meaningful feedback, develop works in progress, and share finished work with an engaged community, whether you arrive with a finished manuscript, a poem, a set of illustrations, or an early draft, and whether you publish traditionally or independently.
If you write about craft, that has value too. CraftSpeak lets you publish and monetize the work behind the work: world building, character backstories, the choices that shaped your creation, in as much depth as you like.
Instead of writing on one platform, selling ebooks on another, and collecting tips on a third, BetweenReads brings everything together in one place, with built-in connections to your readers.
We also believe the best conversations happen in small groups. Writers can form pods of readers and writers, up to six members. Not just that, writers can invite readers who already love their genre to beta read early drafts, and readers earn extra credits for deep feedback.
If products can be tested, why not your best work?
Our monthly journal, BetweenLines, highlights exceptional work, submitted by writers or nominated by readers. Best of all, we publish monthly, so you hear back in weeks, not months.
Readers who want to go further become ReaderScouts, discovering overlooked voices and championing exceptional work.
Guardians of culture.
In the dawn of AI, reading and critical thinking matter more than ever. Those who create with heart, and readers who engage with depth, are still the guardians of culture.
Reading remains one of the most powerful ways we connect: with ideas, with stories, with each other.
That’s why we reward reading.
Reading asks for immersion. Advertising is designed to break it. Rather than sell your attention or charge you to protect it, BetweenReads is designed to be ad-free, funded by readers and writers who believe great stories deserve their full attention.
If this resonates with you, help us shape the community. Have an idea, a question, or simply want to say hello? Write to Jayshree or Alex. We read every email ourselves and reply personally.
Reader. Writer. Curious wanderer.

Whether you join as a reader, writer, poet, illustrator, supporter, or simply a curious visitor, we’re building a place where curiosity is rewarded, great work is discovered, and reading remains a source of wonder.
